Reyna was one of the original sponsored students, before we had a formal program back in 2005. Reyna comes from a family with high achievement, but extreme poverty. Her mother is the driving force behind the success, selling food on the streets to pay for the needs of the 6 family members and demanding that her kids seek higher education. Her four younger siblings are also alums of our program but Reyna was the first. She faced extreme obstacles, both scholastically and personally, yet she finished her medical degree in 2013 and is now called Dra Hurtado. She finished her specialist degree in Gynecology in June of 2015 and is now a doctor on staff at the Military Hospital in Managua.
