Mission of the organization

The mission of Developing Communities, Inc. is to improve the quality of life for people in Nicaragua, one community at a time, through sustainable community development projects - giving the people new opportunities and the tools and resources they need to make choices about their own lives.

About the organization

Developing Communities, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that helps people in Nicaraguan improve the quality of their lives through community projects.   By identifying small under-developed communities that have a desire to better their lives but have little or no opportunity to do so, Developing Communities, Inc. works directly with community members to identify their most pressing needs and work together to meet them.   All of Developing Communities, Inc.'s projects benefit the community, rather than only one individual person or family, and have no affiliation with political or religious organizations.   Our projects focus primarily on education but may include other infrastructure building activities, depending on the needs of the community.   We believe that an increase in the quality and availability of infrastructure allows people to better themselves by pursing education, improving nutrition and healthcare, seeking gainful employment, and increasing efficiency and productivity among existing businesses and organizations.

Our goal

Our goal is to help people in Nicaragua help themselves by increasing the people's freedom to choose their own path in life through the creation of opportunities.   By having more choices and the knowledge and tools to make good decisions, the people in Nicaragua will be able to live fuller, richer lives.   This long-term strategy strives to reduce the negative effects of poverty, and to instill hope and confidence in the lives of every individual so they have the desire and the ability to live the best life possible.   Developing Communities, Inc.'s intent is to empower communities and individuals to ultimately find their own resources in order to have more control of their future and their lives without creating a dependency on government or foreign aid.   Our objective is not necessarily to create major improvements in the overall wealth of people, but rather to give them the tools and knowledge they need to make their own decisions and choose their own direction.   For some this may result in an increase in wealth, for others it may merely mean an improvement in healthcare for their family.   Some people may choose not to change at all and others may go on to become something they never imagined they could be.   Our intent is to provide opportunities and the knowledge and freedom to choose between them.
